Wax Melts And How To Use Them

Wax Melts And How To Use Them

For lots of us wax melts are just a normal part of every day life, but this is not the case for everyone. There are still many out there who have never heard of them, know how to use them, so if you're still a wax melt novice and want to understand what all the fuss is about, then you have come to the right place.

WHAT ARE WAX MELTS?

Essentially wax melts are wick- less scented candles. Wax melts came about many years ago when chandlers were looking for ways in which to use the leftover wax after a candle pour. This was often poured into metal tart trays (just like used in pastry baking) and so they became known as wax tarts. The demand for these grew so much that wax melts (tarts) have become a hugely popular product in their own right. Wax melts no longer come in the form of just wax tarts – they are available in pots, various shapes created in moulds, in packs such as clam shell packs and brittle varieties.

At The French Candle Co. we use the same combination of high quality oils and waxes that go into our luxury candles.

WHY ARE WAX MELTS SO POPULAR?

These are just a few reasons we believe wax melts have become so popular.

  • They allow you to get the strongest possible aroma from your favourite scent.
  • Long burn time - although if you tire of the scent or fancy a change you can just let the wax harden in your burner, pop it out and replace with a new fragrance.
  • Very affordable -wax melts are generally  less expensive than candles, making them a great way to try a new scent before committing to a candle or reed diffuser.
  • Convenient - as they are small & compact, this makes them easy to store away in any small drawer or cupboard. It's easy to snap off how much you want to use.
  • They are portable and can be taken anywhere.
  • There is no need to use a naked flame to heat your wax and fragrance your home. You have the option of melting your wax melts in an electric wax burner, making them a popular choice for those with young children or pets.
  • Create your own fragrances - you can mix and match them to create your own custom fragrances. It’s as simple as breaking off a piece of wax and adding it to others in your wax warmer.

GETTING STARTED

It is really easy to start enjoying wax melts at home, all you need are:

  • Your favourite The French Candle Co. wax melts
  • A wax melter burner and unscented tealight OR an electric wax melt burner

HOW TO USE

If using a traditional tea light burner,  place one cube of your wax melt into the dish at the top of the burner, light a small unscented tea light in the space underneath, and the heat from the candle gently warms the scented wax and will fill your room with your chosen scent.

An electric wax melt burner works in a similar way but instead of a tealight melting the wax it uses the heat from the small bulb to melt the wax.

If you decide you'd like a stronger fragrance, simply add another melt cube**

**If using more than one wax melt, ensure your the bowl on ypur wax burner is large enough, otherwise the melted wax will overflow.

When you are finished burning your melt, simply blow out the tea light or switch off your electric burner. The wax will  cool down and harden, ready to use next time.

Once the wax starts to lose its scent you can remove it and replace with a fresh wax melt cube.

TO REPLACE THE MELT

There are 2 simple ways we recommend to change your wax melt.

  • If you have left your wax to harden then this method is for you. Light a tealight under your burner or switch on your electric burner and watch carefully for a few minutes, until the wax just starts to melt at the edges. At this stage it will simply pop out of your burner. This is a great method if your wax melt still has plenty of scent left and you simply want to change fragrances. Either pop it in a bag to be used again or discard. Wipe out your dish with kitchen paper and your burner is ready to use again.

  • If your warmer has been on for a while and your wax is in liquid form, take 1-2 cotton wool balls and place them inside the warmer. Allow the cotton wool balls to absorb the liquid wax and then simply dispose of the cotton balls when you are done. TOP TIP: these are great for lighting your fire! If there is any wax residue left in your burner then take another cotton wool ball or piece of kitchen paper and wipe the remainder of the wax from your burner.
